Our Heritage & History
A Legacy Rooted in Valour, Service and Education
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Nasirabad has a distinguished history closely associated with The Grenadiers Regiment and its tradition of courage, service and sacrifice.
The Vidyalaya was established by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, New Delhi, on 20 September 1971, under the leadership of Shri J. K. Sharma, I/C Principal, with Colonel Shivji Singh, Commandant, The Grenadiers Regimental Centre, as the Chairman. The school initially functioned from the premises of 21 B.I. Lines.
The present school building has an even older and remarkable history. It was originally constructed as The Grenadiers Memorial Hostel, with contributions from officers and personnel of all ranks in memory of the heroes of World War II. The foundation stone was laid on 10 December 1958 by Lt. Gen. S. D. Verma, Colonel of The Grenadiers. Construction commenced on 16 September 1959 and was completed on 21 November 1960. The building was formally inaugurated by Lt. Gen. S. D. Verma, Colonel of The Grenadiers, on 10 December 1960, on the occasion of Egypt Day.
The Grenadiers Regiment holds the distinction of being the first regiment to implement the concept of a Memorial Hostel, creating a lasting tribute to its brave war heroes.
Following the relocation of The Grenadiers Regimental Centre to Jabalpur in 1974–75, the Vidyalaya gradually expanded its presence in the present complex. During 1983–84, Classes VI to X were shifted to the present building. Subsequently, additional extensions were sanctioned to develop the institution into a full-fledged Kendriya Vidyalaya, and the remaining classes were also shifted to the present campus.
To preserve the historic association of the Vidyalaya with The Grenadiers Regiment, two commemorative stones depicting the history of the school building were donated by Lt. Gen. Riskhalon, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, Colonel of The Grenadiers, during his visit to Nasirabad Cantonment on 28 July 1996.
Today, PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Nasirabad proudly carries forward this rich legacy. The historic campus stands as a symbol of remembrance, discipline, dedication and service to the nation, inspiring generations of students to strive for excellence and uphold the values of responsible citizenship.
